VENUE ANNOUNCED FOR 2013 WORLD SCHOOLS GOLF CHALLENGE
Sa-wat-dee (greetings)
We are delighted to announce that the Fifth World Schools Golf Challenge will be held in Hua Hin, Thailand from Sunday 31st March to Friday 5th April, 2013. |
Expressions of interest have already been received from a significant number of schools indicating their participation in Thailand. We expect 2013 tournament to be at capacity and strongly recommend early registration to avoid disappointment.
Tournament director Roger Carroll said that they had received a lot of positive feedback about the decision to take the well-established tournament to Asia for the first time.
"All four previous Challenges have been held in the southern hemisphere so we are now going to present the golfers with a complete change in conditions and the challenges that brings.

"This is a once in a life time opportunity golf experience, for students to combine the chance of travelling to an exotic country, to gain an understanding of the culture/educational activities of the region and to further their golf development.
"We have chosen Thailand for several important reasons beginning with the quality of the golf courses and the accommodation. I'll be inspecting the courses and hotels recommended to us in the next few weeks and will have the packages out immediately after my trip." a

ADAM SCOTT FOUNDATION
Furthermore, World Schools Golf is proud of the association we have with the Adam Scott Foundation and a further motivation for choosing Thailand as our 2013 destination. Adam Scott, Schools Challenge Ambassador and his foundation in Asia, support a Thai village via their supporter Thai Beverage company. This assistance has helped the village to rebuild following the devastating tsunami in 2004.
"The Thai Beverage group are wonderful supporters of charitable initiatives and the support that they provide the Chang-Everton Village is wonderful. We are pleased to be able to assist them." said Geoff Hall General Manager of the Adam Scott Foundation.
"We are really pleased that the funds from the Thailand World Golf Schools Challenge will be going to this initiative."
PLAYING FORMAT
Following feedback we have received, we have reverted to the format used in South Africa where we had a rest day on the Wednesday in between the four rounds. This allows participants to partake in the optional educational tours available, sightsee or play more golf.
ACCOMMODATION
World Schools Golf organisers are encouraging all teams to stay at the one accommodation venue so that a 'tournament village' can be established and interaction between the schools off the golf course can be enhanced. We have narrowed the selection to two options and will decide following the inspection tour in 2 weeks. |
HISTORY OF THE WSGC
The 2013 Thailand World Schools Golf Challenge follows previous events held in Christchurch, New Zealand 2007, Adelaide, South Australia 2009 and Stellenbosch, South Africa in 2010.
More recently the Asia-Pacific World Schools Golf Challenge event in Mornington, Victoria, attracted several new schools to the World Schools Golf who have indicated their intention to make the journey to Hua Hin next year. |

HUA HIN
Hua Hin is Thailand's oldest beach town resort. Situated on the west coast of the Gulf of Thailand and only 200 kilometres from the capital, Bangkok, it offers the ultimate getaway destination for the city's elite. Hua Hin became popular with the Royal Family following the construction of the southern railway in the 1920's, travel became more accessible and a demand for luxury resorts and hotels grew
Today Hua Hin is undergoing rapid expansion. Over the past few years, the town has seen countless housing developments spring up, new golf courses constructed, a brand new shopping complex and movie theatre and a boom in local businesses.
The charm of Hua Hin is that it still retains its fishing village serenity which is now side by side with the bustling centre of a modern luxury beach resort, with fantastic markets, white sandy beaches, designer shopping areas and a wonderful array of eateries available.

 |
Finally, we value your continued support and as appreciation we would like to offer schools who have competed in previous tournament a 15% discount on the entry fee per team.
We will have regular newsletters and updates on Facebook so please check out our page and we look forward to seeing you in the wonderful location of Thailand.

The World Schools Golf Challenge is a once in a life time experience for high school golfers, their coaches, teachers, families and supporters.
Schools are invited to send teams to international locations to experience the sporting, cultural and educational experiences that the selected destination and the tournament have to offer.
Team members must be pupils or immediate past pupils of their school. Age range is 13 to 19 years inclusive at the commencing date of the Tournament.
All players must have official handicaps from recognised golf associations. Handicaps will be checked and the organisers will have the right to amend handicaps where there appear to be discrepancies. A maximum handicap of 21 will apply for the competition.
"We believe the WSGC helps our players grow through sport. The players have been stretched by the competition and enjoyed the diversity of competitors...the reputation of golf at our School has been enhanced amongst competing schools. We see only benefits in our continued participation in this event."
